Club Organisation

The Hervey Bay Dive Club is one of a number of clubs that come under the umbrella of the Hervey Bay Boat Club.
The club was formed in 1997. It is a non profit club promoting enjoyable, safe and economical scuba diving. Social Activities are organised and families are encouraged to be  part of them. They include Christmas functions, dive trips and regular BBQ's after the diving.

Diving
To take part in a dive you must contact the Dive Officer usually on a Friday night before the weekend dive and have your name registered. Everyone then assembles at the advertised departure place at the designated time. The dive location is discussed and determined. The D.O. who organises the boats allocates divers to them and everyone proceeds to the dive site. On non dive dates club members will often organise their own diving. Contacts are advertised in the newsletter.

Meetings
These are held on the second Tuesday of the month. They are held at the Boat Club and commence at 7.30 pm. They are open to all members. Current diving topics and associated areas of interest are discussed as well as the planning of club activities. Meetings run to an agenda, minutes are taken and relevant information is published in the monthly newsletter. The Tommy Turtle Award is presented to a diver for a humorous faux pas.

An Annual General Meeting is held in August to receive reports, elect a committee and set fees.

Club Newsletter
This is produced by the Publicity Officer after each general meeting and mailed to all members. It keeps members informed of club activities and has a monthly schedule of diving activities. There is contact information for all club members. Contributions to the newsletter are always welcomed.

Affiliation
The club is affiliated with the Australian Underwater Federation through the Queensland Branch.

Fees
Annual membership is $25 single or $40 for a family plus $55 insurance per diver. Club insurance is with AUFQ. Each  member on paying the
$55 gains AUF membership plus insurance with public liability, professional indemnity and accident cover. All club members must have  insurance with these three categories  You must be a member of the Boat Club before you can join the dive club.

Equipment
Divers must have their own equipment and maintained to accepted standards. The D.O. has the responsibility for the Club oxygen and has it available on one of the dive boats. Air fills are available from Dive Hervey Bay at a discounted rate for club members. Some members have their own compressors.

Club-T Shirts
T-shirts with the club logo are available from the Treasurer. There are different styles.

Fundraising
The clubs major fund raising activity is to assist with the Saturday Raffles at the Boat Club. Our members are rostered to assist. If you can't make the rostered time it is your responsibility to swap with someone else so there are enough helpers. The task is not difficult and the club is involved approx. every five weeks.
